The Hot Seats at Flying Monkey Arts Center
The Hot Seats have been touring far and wide in the US and UK thus far in 2010 in support of their new album - Retreat to Camp Candy Temptation Island - which has been described as "an explosive concoction of old time music engrossed in the present," (Bootleg Magazine), "spectacular music" and "pure entertainment" (Scotland on Sunday), and that the band "seems determined to keep jug band and skiffle music alive with humor, energy, and real musical chops." (Banjo Newsletter). On their way to Auston, TX to perform in some (unofficial) South By Southwest Showcases, the Hot Seats will bring their award-winning raddy, oldtimey goodness to Hunstville at teh Flying Monkey Arts Center. The band returned recently from a 6 week tour of the British Isles, including a second trip to the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival, sold out gigs in art centers throughout Scotland, England, Ireland, and Wales, and a marquee performance at the Open House Festival in Belfast. While abroad, the band was referred to as "wildly inventive (Three Weeks Unlimited)", and summed up with the statement "seldom before have serious musicianship and serious derangement met in such pleasing circumstances. (The Glasgow Herald)" The Hot Seats live show has been described as "virtually non-stop (The Glasgow Herald)," and "careening, high- energy entertainment that is off the rails - but expertly performed (Relish Magazine)." They have performed widely on the East Coast of the US, as well as three critically acclaimed tours in the UK. They have received accolades both for their musical (1st Prize in the Neo-Traditional Band Competition at the 2008 Clifftop Appalachian Music Festival) and overall value (2007 Independent Music World Series Champions, 2008 Herald Angel Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival). The Hot Seats will be playing on the Blue Plate Special on WDVX earlier in the afternoon For more information, pictures, CD's, mp3's and interviews, please contact Josh Bearman at thehotseats@gmail.com, or by phone at 804-239-2549.
