Each year, JDRF One Walk™ (formerly JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes) brings together more than 900,000 people to change the future of type 1 diabetes (T1D). Many of these people have T1D themselves, and many more are friends, family, or coworkers of someone challenged by this disease. But no matter what their connection is, they walk because they believe in a world where T1D no longer exists — a world where Type One has become Type None.
Each year, JDRF funds millions of dollars in life-changing research. This research has led to breakthroughs such as artificial pancreas systems and encapsulated beta cell therapies, both of which have moved into clinical trials.
With more than 200 Walks nationwide, everyone has an opportunity to participate. And for those who can't make their local Walk, or want to walk with someone who is some distance away, they can choose to walk virtually. The Walk also offers plenty of ways to get involved and help turn Type One into Type None. You can choose to walk alone, start or join a team, or even volunteer.
There are two types of teams: Family and Corporate. Family teams aren't just limited to family members. They can include friends, coworkers, classmates, neighbors — everyone is welcome to join. Corporate teams are created by companies participating in the Walk, but just like family teams, anyone can join, even if they're not employees.
No matterwhat type of team you're on, there are a lot of benefits of being a part of one. Teams generally raise more money, rally more support and awareness for JDRF and T1D, and make the Walk even more enjoyable. To start your own, all you have to do is register as a team captain and from there, you can invite anyone you like.
Once you register, you'll have access to your Participant Center, where you'll find fundraising tips, tools, emails, and more — everything you need to make your fundraising efforts as successful as possible.
April 25, 2015 on the Dynetics Campus in CRP
Registration is at 9 am — The Ribbon Cutting & 5K Walk at 10:30am
As we are now in 2014, I am encouraged and inspired by the continued generosity of our community!
This provides great hope for those enduring various challenges in life. I am reminded of a quote by Franklin D. Roosevelt, “We have always held to the hope, the belief, the conviction that there is a better life, better world, beyond the horizon.”
As we transition from the horizon of 2013 into the new year, we have the opportunity to provide hope for our future leaders. For children and families at or below the poverty level, hope is so important and critical to creating a pathway for success.
All proceeds from our tournament benefit the YMCA’s Child Development Program. This program is meeting a critical need in our community as 88 percent of our families benefit from YMCA scholarships. The focus of our Child Development Program remains the well-being of our children and their growth into honest, caring, responsible and respectable young men and women.
I would like to ask for your partnership and support by joining us for the 2014 Fore All, Y’all! YMCA Golf Tournament for Child Development Services on the afternoon of Monday, April 14, at Valley Hill Country Club. It is timely that we celebrate the beginning of golf season by joining together for this hopeful cause. It will be a great day to partner with other community leaders and together we can help in providing “a better life, better world, beyond the horizon.” I thank you in advance for your support and look forward to seeing you on the course.
Chairman, Fore All, Y'all
Golf Tournament to Benefit YMCA Child Development Services
My father ordered a VHS copy of “Love Story” for me when “Titanic” was all the rage. He undoubtedly realized I was bristling with the first tinges of adolescent angst. My variety featured a hearty obsession with his generation's music, literature, and cinema. Love Story was a great fit.
Naturally I was hooked from the first line, a heart-stopping spoiler that demands attention for the next hour and a half. I declared it a Top 5 Favorite as I sobbed over the credits, destroyed by this pair of actors I had fallen in love with, yet secretly enjoying the huge emotional rush like any 14-year-old girl. I went on to watch it countless times throughout high school, reveling in the "verbal volleyball" dialogue, the New England aesthetic, the certain tragedy.
