EXPERTS CORNER:

Beauty Before Your Big Day

By Lynn Childers

Once all the invitations are out, the venue is booked, flowers are being arranged, and cakes are baking, it's time to focus on the star of the day: the bride. To be stress-free and look amazing on your big day, here are a few easy and simple beauty suggestions of when and how you should start your wedding countdown.

One month out: Always start by booking your bridal party’s hair and makeup in advance. That ensures you will get the exact time you need so you will be on time for your special day. At that time, you will need to book your hair consultation for a practice run or bridal pictures.

One to two weeks out: You will need to bring any pictures and hair accessories to your consultation. As your big day is arriving fast, you can plan a spa day to make you feel your best. A brown sugar scrub or an avocado masque would leave your skin looking and feeling rejuvenated. You could follow the scrub or masque with a massage. A week before would be the perfect time to get your color touched up and ends trimmed. This would also be the time to consider any facial or body waxing services you might need, so that on your wedding day you won't have any breakouts or redness.

Three days before: This is the time to consider your nails. It will relax you and you will want them to look polished while you show off that diamond. Shellac manicures and pedicures are perfect for brides because they last up to 14 days and will still look good when you get back from your honeymoon.

You may also consider a packed bag for the day-of, so no one will leave any necessary items behind.

Day of: The big day has finally arrived! Make sure you don't shampoo your hair . An updo will hold better when your hair is not freshly shampooed. Also, wear a button-down shirt so that your hair stays perfect when you change into your wedding gown.

For brides, lash extensions are great way to make your eyes pop and can easily be applied that day. They will last up to 14 days, add volume and length, and it can be your option to add mascara. If you’re worried about mascara running, you won't need to apply any with lash extensions.

Five hours before ceremony: Arrive at salon with photographer, bridesmaids, mothers-of or others to begin hair appointments for everyone. You want to give enough time so that everyone can be relaxed and has time to fix or adjust styling. It can take up to an hour-and-a-half per updo, depending on length of hair.

Three hours before ceremony: Begin makeup for those involved, touch up on lash extensions, and make sure nails are polished. This could take up to 45 minutes each person. Then you will be on your way to the venue!

Once you’re at the venue, have bridesmaids or a stylist do last minutes touch-ups on lipgloss and makeup, and ensure that your veil is in place. From there, you’re ready for your happily ever after.
